Experimenting with Photography

I have been trying to look at different shooting techniques, both at university and at home. During a recent session at Uni we looked at lighting techniques:

Based in a studio we looked at using soft boxes and stand alone flash lights. Using the subject I asked him to look straight at the camera and show me both sides of his porfile to get an idea of where shadows fall on the persons face.

The whole purpose of trying out lighting techniques for me was to decide if I wanted to use a studio or not. I am thinking about using a studio because I have come across this book from the local Library by Rosanne Olson called This is Who I am. Its an excellent book containing images and essay from individuals discussing their lives and issues. The images are beautifully taken in studio sessions, some of the images have vails I assume this is to make them feel more confident. The women range from all different shapes and sizes. Anyway the purpose of this blog is to show you the studio experimentation.

As the session went on I decided to look closer at the subjects, experimenting on getting closer to the subject I used another subject who was also in the session. I experiemented with the light changing it to see what kind of effect I could get.

This has given me Ideas to try and get close up shots. The pitch that I am currently working on is looking at getting closerr to people, seeing scars and abnormalities. I think that I am going to try some of these at home. As I am writing this I am starting to feel uncomfortable about how I am going to ask and speak to people about letting me see their scars let alone take picture of them. The who reason I am interested in this is because I have herendus stretch marks and scars for having my first child. I think suggestiung this project may have been a way of me coming to terms with the child that I am currently carrying and the birth of my last child.
